THE CONCEPT

As part of Delta Dental’s mission to promote good oral health, the nation’s leading dental benefits provider developed the “Smile Squad” — a concept that will engage kids while educating them on the importance of active dental care.

The “Smile Squad” features a group of young heroes who utilize good habits and smart actions to combat “Captain Cavity” and his malevolent “Mouth Marauders” as they seek to wreak havoc on kids’ oral health.

Each of the four heroes represents an important aspect of maintaining good oral health.

CHARACTERS

HEROES

Sparkle

Sparkle knows the way to floss that shows those nasty germs who’s boss. Her “Glide & Grab” technique teaches kids how to gently guide the floss and avoid harming their gums.

Glint

Glint knows the way to brush each time that drives away the goop and grime. His “Three-Minute Maneuver” reminds kids of the importance of brushing for a full three minutes at least twice per day.

Chomp

Chomp knows to use the kind of paste that makes sure plaque germs are erased. His “Pea-Sized Pummeling” power attack helps kids remember the right amount of toothpaste needed to keep their teeth clean and healthy.

Pearl

Pearl knows the key to a healthy smile that keeps away the creatures vile. Her “Crunch Time Tactic” teaches kids that fruits and vegetables are the best snacks to help them stay healthy and grow strong teeth.

VILLIANS

Villians

Each villain in the Smile Squad’s rogues gallery represents a specific bad habit that can hurt oral health and promote tooth decay. Through their defeat and redemption, they demonstrate the behaviors to avoid while giving kids hope that it’s never too late to start adopting good habits.

THE CARD GAME

The fast-paced “Smile Squad” card game gives parents and children a way to have fun in the dental office waiting room and at home while learning important oral health tips and techniques.

By matching Hero cards and Villain cards with specific oral health Action cards, players score points toward the ultimate goal of reaching 32 points (i.e. the number of permanent teeth in a healthy smile).

Intended for children ages 6-11 but suitable for kids of all ages, the game encourages players to learn by reading the oral health and hygiene lessons out loud when playing each card.

WEBSITE

As a hub for “edutainment” and the headquarters for our intrepid heroes, SmileSquadHQ.com will offer a variety of activities for children to enjoy while immersing themselves in positive dental health information.

Just a few of the activities include:

  • A variety of games — from simple shooters to card matching time trials — convey critical dental health information via fun and familiar mediums.
  • Comic-book style adventures quiz children throughout and then reward them for making good oral health choices by advancing the story forward.
  • A download, print and cut-out version of the full card game encourages parents to help their kids assemble a deck and then use play time as an opportunity to discuss their dental habits.
